2/3/08 DCR/UA Cross-Country Skiing, Kicksledding, & Snowshoeing with the MA Dept of Conservation and Recreation Universal Access Program
1:00-3:00 p.m. Weston Ski Track (Leo J. Martin Golf Course), Weston, MA.
If you thought your child with disabilities could never participate in outdoor winter sports such as cross-country skiing, kicksledding, or snowshoeing, think again! Join other Yesodot families for some great outdoor fun! Venture Into Well-Being provides a safe, accessible, and enjoyable experience for all. Adaptive equipment is available at no cost; (please call for additional information on what equipment is available. Yes, even children who usually require a wheelchair can be accommodated.) Free trail pass for all Universal Access Program participants.
Please note that for other family members who want to do cross-country skiing or snowshoeing, they can either bring their own equipment, or rent it there - ($14 for adults, $7 for age 6-12 , $5 for age 2-5).
There is a snack bar available, but families are welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks.
While parents are encouraged to participate in the sports activities with their children, there are also a limited number of volunteers who can assist, (e.g. your child could sit in the kicksled, and a volunteer could move/steer the sled.)
Please note that no one will be allowed to participate in any activities without completing waiver forms in advance.
Pre-registration is required; RSVP to YesodotRSVP@gmail.com Waiver forms will be emailed to you when you pre-register.
2/12/08 – 7:00-9:00 pm Residential Transition Discussion & Support Group
When a child or young adult with disabilities transitions to a living situation outside of the family home, there are many issues that need to be carefully considered and managed, before, during, and after the move.
This discussion & support group will focus on all aspects of that “residential transition”. Parents at all stages (considering a residential transition, already have a child living outside the home, have a child in a unique residential placement, etc.) are encouraged to attend to share their experiences, successes, and frustrations. As many of us know, some of the best information we’ve gotten has come from other parents in similar situations that have shared their experiences and we’ve learned from the shared information and support. We invite you to take part in this dynamic and ever evolving group!
The group meets monthly at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC in Newton, MA.
