Our Parent Education Workshops provide current topical information, as does our bi-annual assistive technology conference. The workshops prepare parents with information regarding strategies for parents of newly diagnosed children (getting organized to manage the processes of early intervention and special education), guardianship, and financial planning. A growing library of resource materials is also available, including Yesodot's monthly electronic newsletters, a newly updated website, and various resource packets.
Information and Support:
Yesodot hosts an accessible website including a 'member's only' section where families can find information on specific disabilities, residential housing, assistive technology, and much more. Families can also discuss issues and relevant topics with other families on the Yesodot forum. To access the forum, click here.
The Parent2Parent Mentor Program:
A unique pilot program that is especially designed to provide support and assistance to Jewish parents who have children with special needs. Through this program, parents who have just learned that their child has special needs will be connected with a Parent Mentor.
The role of the Parent Mentor is to be a source of knowledge and support to families who are just getting the news about their child's diagnosis and who need assistance and advice as to how to effectively navigate the special needs system and advocate for the needs of their child.
Through a structured series of trainings and support sessions, mentors and their partners will be offered the tools and supports they need to create a mutually beneficial mentoring relationship in which there is an exchange of information and ideas on parenting and special needs programs.
