The Importance of Integrated Employment

at the JCC Newton, Room 409A


Melanie Jordan of the Institute for Community Inclusion at UMass Boston and the Work Without Limits Employment Initiative* will provide our presentation, highlighting the following topics:

•     The meaning and benefits of work for individuals with significant disabilities
•     Starting career exploration early for successful school-to-work transition
•     Working with the school to utilize the IEP as a vehicle to achieve employment goals


Melanie Jordan is a Training Associate with the Institute for Community Inclusion at UMass Boston. Her activities there include publication writing, professional development training & consultation, and family presentations, all with a focus on employment of persons with disabilities. She has a diverse human service background, having worked extensively doing job development & job coaching, as well as in special education, residential, and family support services.

•     Supports to address communication, social/behavior, sensory, and organizational barriers
•     Helpful accommodations in an employment setting
