Programs and Events

During the Jewish month of Iyar (April 25th- May 23rd, 2009) the Special Needs Professional Committee of the Greater Boston Jewish Community sponsored Jewish Disability Awareness Month. Throughout the month programs were held addressing disability issues and fostering awareness and inclusion in the Jewish community. Two Shabbat services specifically designed for children with disabilities and their families took place. Informational workshops led by professionals in the field were well received and participants gained important knowledge and resources. Several social programs for children and adults with disabilities were held. Overall, programs provided insight into the challenges faced by Jewish families whose children have disabilities as well as highlighting the importance of community inclusion. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to synagogues, organizations and programs which participated in Disability Awareness Month.
